Being a mom can be overwhelming. That’s wh enmom hacks come in handy.

Are you looking for mom hacks that can make your life easier? Well, you are in the right place!

As a parent, you are pulled in many different directions. Because you are not JUST a parent, the aspects of parenting take up a huge chunk of your day.

We can not do it all as moms. I have learned this the hard way.

I am not an organized person. This is my weakness. Instead of allowing this weakness to pull me down, I have found ways to embrace it.

They are called mom hacks. I wouldn’t be able to do everything I do in a day without simple ideas and hacks to help me out!

But before we get into hacks I want to tell you about something I have recently found. Planners make life easier as a mom! A wonderful planner I discovered not too long ago is by Erin Condren. She has a variety of planners to choose from that will fit any need and lifestyle. You can check her Erin Condren LifePlanner™ out here.

What does a mom do every day? And how can mom hacks help?

  • Homemaking

Cleaning, cooking, laundry, and SO MUCH MORE!

  • Budgets

Finances, budgeting, etc., etc.

  • Plans

Meal plans, after school activities, family trips, vacations. Planning, planning, and some more planning.

  • Schedules Appointments

If you are a mom, chances are you make the majority, if not all, of your family members’ appointments.

  • Grocery Shops, School shops, Clothes Shops, etc.

I love to shop. But I hate grocery shopping, school supply shopping, and everything in between.

  • Helps with homework/homeschool

You either help your child with their school work or you homeschool and help your child with their school work 🙂

  • Work

And if you have a career or work at home, add it to your already growing list of responsibilities as a mom.

What is the best way to nail mommyhood with mom hacks?

There is no right way to nail mommyhood. But you can make your life easier with mommy hacks.

Speaking of hacks, I am a very unorganized person. The best way I handled my ahem … lack of organization was by creating a planner to help me and you! Below you can download your free copy today 🙂

I don’t want to merely survive motherhood. I want to enjoy it.

You cannot simply allow a peaceful home life to come to you. You must create and plan for it! This is why I created a peaceful nest planner to help you plan your peaceful home today.

I asked several women what their favorite mom hacks were and received some awesome answers!

What are the best mom hacks?

Robot Vacuum

“I didn’t realize how much I would love it either. We have hardwood floors, so once my son started crawling, it became noticeable how dirty the floors got. We have a dog, too, so he was constantly covered in hair, and I had to sweep/ vacuum daily. Now I just run my Roomba every night and don’t worry about it anymore. I’ll never go back to a regular vacuum. ” – Mallory, www.mamaonparade.com

A Reflection Day

“At the end of every week, I take a few hours to reflect on the week with my kids (I have 6). I think about where I was lacking, where I could do better, and most of all, where my children are having problems and how I can help them. For example, if I see that my 5-year-old is acting out a lot when we have a family movie night and realize that its because he is not interested in the movie, I sit him down and explain that this week it was …choice, but if he sits through this movie with us, he will get to choose next week.

It’s not always that simple, but I have 6 kids, so I try to give them each day as well.

By this, I mean they each have a day to make all the kid-like decisions. What’s for dinner, and they get to help make it, what movie are we watching, what story for bedtime. I have found that when you take that time to really see through your kid’s eyes why they are struggling, you will find a way to help them through it.” – Laura

Prepare the Night Before

“I get all my kids’ clothes ready for school on Sunday nights for the entire week.” – Mellisa

“I think doing things the night before helps me so much! Laying out the clothes, having breakfast figured out, lunches packed, the day planned, bags packed, etc.

Each thing really doesn’t take that long, but something about having it arranged ahead of time makes the morning go so much more smoothly!” -McKayla, Motivation for Mom

Reduce Screen Time

Check out how Cheryl from Hubba-Bubba has reduced screen time here.

Norwex Products

Ashley says: “Norwex products have cut down my cleaning time so I could have more family time. It also made it safer, and I can get my 2 toddlers to help. “

“Never blame the baby!”

Replace “I can’t right now because the baby is feeding/sleeping.” With something along the lines of “that sounds awesome! Go ahead and get started, and I’ll be there soon!” – basically, do whatever you can to shift perspective on a less fun situation, so the older child never learns to resent the baby.

Also, always give credit for a fun situation to the baby…. like when they get a new toy, it’s from the baby or when they go to the museum or park, maybe it’s the baby’s idea.

Basically, use positive reinforcement that the baby is cool as often as possible!” – Danielle from DeenAdventures

Learn How to Easily Untwist Car Seat Straps

This can save so much time! Kristen from Driving Mom Crazy shares the #1 tip here!

Make Lunches the Night Before

“Make sure to prep things like carrot sticks, apple slices, broccoli, etc., for something quick, easy, and fresh. I always make sandwiches, put together fruit/veggie bags, and have everything together in the refrigerator, so I don’t forget it.

The kids also know where to find their lunch stuff in the frig so they can pack their lunch box in the morning. Having everything prepped and ready to go makes it much easier than trying to throw something together last minute.

I also like to prep healthier food ahead of time, like their Gluten-Free Freezer Pancakes… instead of making pancakes from scratch on a busy school morning, I can just warm these in the microwave, and they taste delicious!” – Gina, Money Savvy Living (Get her gluten-free freezer pancake recipe!)

Nap When Your Baby Naps

Jenn says, ” Seriously … the housework can wait. You need to be refreshed, too!”

Learn to Declutter and Systematize

“Having an organized home lets the kids learn how to do life tasks, go through trial and error, and master a skill. It free’s me to overwatch them and track their skill growth. It ensures that I trust they will be self-sufficient in their lives. From this position, I know when things change in them.” – Shemeida

Use a Block Schedule

Take a look at how Kimberly from Team Cartwright uses a block schedule in her parenting.

Keep a Bag of Essentials in Your Car

“I keep a bag or large thirty-one tote in my car (“the mom-mobile,” haha). Throw in diapers, wipes, a spare outfit for the youngest…anything you need for a quick change. Motion sickness bracelets go in there, too. In the winter, I’ve even driven around with a fleece throw or two.”  – Steph from Rural Ruby

Create a Space in Your Home That is Contained, Baby-Friendly

“I converted my dining room into a playroom for my toddlers. It’s so worth it to have a contained, baby-friendly place they can play with minimal supervision.” – Becka

Lauren shares her practical mom hacks for babies:

“Taking every piece of furniture out of the living room (to avoid head bumping and scratching) to turn the living room into “baby Land” where she can play away, and I can see her while I do chores or take a break to watch tv. If she gets antsy, her educational shows can be turned on, and we can snuggle all in the same place.

Also, a diaper bag that is a backpack to hold everything under the sun so I feel less like a human mule.

Our baby would drink both cold and warm bottles in the beginning, so we started doing just cold bottles (which she prefers now), and we don’t have to worry about formula mixes other than keeping them cold now on the go. We just take a small Coleman cooler with a jug mixed, and we can pour going down the road. Oh…having a pet to entertain them helps too! 🤪 “

Self-care

Almost every mom I talked to added that self-care is so important!

Invest in a Washable Plastic Mat

“Invest in a washable plastic mat to put under-eating areas. Look for hard-wearing mats to catch all the bits that miss their mouths. (Sometimes the whole plate)” – Dani, The Moma Mia Blog

Do certain chores on certain days

“No more thinking “when will I get THAT done?”, and you just… do it without even thinking” – Carolyn

Create a Weekly Meal Plan

“It helps save money, stick to a budget, and avoid wasting time wondering what to eat for dinner.” – Jane

Use a Timer

Make Bottles Beforehand/Layout Clothes

“I lay both my daughters’ outfits out the night before and towels for their baths so I don’t have to wake up and go on the hunt! – I also make bottles beforehand instead of having to make them when I need them.” – Taylor, The Accomplished Family

Start Training Your Kids to Help Around the House as Soon as You Possibly Can

“Getting organized and having a system your kids understand so they can help. My daughter is five, so this only works when they get older but seriously a lifesaver!!! I have a 5 bin drawer in my daughter’s room where I plan her uniforms for the week in each drawer so she can get help getting dressed in the morning. I have a snack drawer, breakfast drawer in the fridge, and car snack box, and I make lunches at night. It will take time to set up the first time but it works great!” – Valerie, Val Around Town

“My best mom hack is to start training your kids to help around the house as soon as possible.

When they get used to help at a young age, it’s less of a hassle to get them to help when they are older.” – Andrea, Blog to Biz Strategies

Run Both Dishwasher and Washing Machine Every Night on Overnight Cycles

“I run my dishwasher and washing machine every night on overnight cycles. This ensures that my favorite coffee cup is available every morning and I never have giant loads of laundry to fold.” – Anissa, Mama Goes Beyond

Get Ahead of Your Tasks (don’t procrastinate)

“My one mom hack is that I try to complete my task/ work beforehand so that I do not panic in the real moment. As I am a working mom, this helps me a lot.” – Sidra. She Often Blogs

Pre-Plan Your Activities

“Pre-planning activities days or weeks in advance. That leaves some time for unexpected work that pops up. ” – Patricia, WriteWithPat

Do High- Low With Your Kids

“When we would sit around the table eating, we would all share our highs (best thing that happened today) and lows (worse thing today). Once I was traveling, and my 9-year-old chatted. It was me on the phone. Hello! How are you? Good. How was school? Fine. What’s new? Nothing…

So I used the high-low and filled him in on my high and low for the day. My low, of course, was missing him. What was his high? The girl he had a crush on kissed him at recess… HIS FIRST KISS! Sheesh!

I even use High-Low now with my grandkids.

My granddaughter’s low was that her best friend was mad at her, and she wasn’t sure why. It was upsetting to her. Did she offer it up before our High-Low game… No!” – April, The Little Labradoodle

Share a Family Google Calendar – Trish

Label Everything!

“labeling … my friends, make fun of my OCD, but I am not really OCD. I just want to be organized because I have better things to do than look for things and pick up after people … labeling helps reduce this. Label bins in your pantry, bins in closets, drawers, etc.

It helps your family put things where they go and also find them with less of a need to yell “moooooommmmm” … it doesn’t have to be some crazy typed label… colored index cards, a black sharpie, and packing tape will set you up well.” – Christy

Junell from MissAdventures in Adulting shares practical mom hacks.

“Honestly? Learn to say no! I say yes to too many things and make myself insane very quickly! Keep snacks and a box of tissues in the car. Google Calendar, I send my husband meeting requests for all the practices and stuff, so he knows (in theory) what’s going on. Volunteer at the elementary school. You learn so much about your child when you can be a fly on the wall, and the kids don’t notice the volunteers at all!”

mom hacks

Marissa shares her top 7 Mom Hacks:

As others have mentioned, the more organized you are, the better.

When doing laundry on the weekends, I would hang it on hangers in the order in which the children would wear it for the week. This way, any team or club shirts would be in the right place on the day of need, and there was no mad dash to find the missing shirt.

ALL shoes and book bags were placed by the door the night before so that morning would go more smoothly.

Likewise, on Friday afternoons, when we all got home, everyone went through their book bags, cleared out things that needed to stay home, and brought me things that needed to be signed. If there was any homework, it was completed, so the kids got a break over the weekend.

During the week, homework was completed at the table while I was cooking so that any questions could be answered and help delivered by myself or older kids as needed. This was HUGE because the kids could finish before dinner and have some free time before bed.

I kept a whiteboard on the fridge for anything that needed to go on the grocery list.

The kids knew that it would not get bought if it didn’t go on the list. They also knew that just because it went on the list did not mean I would buy it. LOL

As with the grocery list, the kids knew things had to go on my calendar if they wanted me to be there.

I kept a giant desk calendar on the wall for them to add things to, and each night I would check it to ensure everything was always on my portable calendar. As the kids got older and mobile devices took over, we shared a google family calendar which helped a TON!

I kept a school box loaded with extra supplies in the office closet. When school supplies would go on sale, I would stock up on things like paper, pencils, pens, index cards, folders, notebooks, composition books, erasers, colored pencils, crayons, glue, and more. As the school year progressed, this saved TONS of late-night runs to the store because someone forgot something.

Mich From MamaBuzz Shares Her Top 3 Mom Hacks:

“My #1 tip is to prepare my baby’s bag and car seat at night! I’ll place them in the living room, ready to pick up for our activities on the next day. We are out and about with Mom and Baby classes, so I have to refill diapers and check wipes and clothes the night before.

#2: If you’re going out, change your little one, so he’s ready. Then you can follow after.

#3: My baby doesn’t like the car seat, so I usually place him once I’m all set to go. ”

Add Shelving For Shoes

“We had a problem with missing shoes ALL THE TIME! It would drive me crazy. I had a system that was failing…a basket by the door where they were supposed to put their shoes.

I reorganized our laundry/mudroom and added shelving for shoes. Now each kid has a shelf where they can see their shoes, and we worked hard to make taking their shoes off as they come into the house a habit.

Before we did this, we would spend 10–15 minutes looking for shoes to wear before we could leave. My 2-year-old is the best at putting his shoes up!” – Ashleigh, Smart Cents Mom

Freezer Cooking

“Freezer cooking is one of my favorite tips to have more evening time to do other things!” Check out more of Brandi’s tips here.

Wear Workout Clothes to Bed – Erin

Use AdKaddy

“This is centered around a phone organization hack (organized phone = organized mind? 😆). I use AdKaddy to keep my email inbox free of clutter. It houses all your ads/brand stuff (whatever you want to receive), tracks shipping and receipts, and is generally more enjoyable to use than my regular email.

Lately, it’s helped me better keep up with my grocery budget (we use Instacart) since it holds onto all my emailed transactions. I can easily view and keep track without having to hunt anything down.

But really, you could use it for whatever you buy or want to keep up with without having to deal with traditional email marketing. I love it!” – Laura

Pack a Cooler With Drinks and Snacks For the Car

“Pack a cooler with drinks and snacks for the car when shopping or going on car trips. My family never did this, but my in-laws did, and it helped keep the kids less angry, and we didn’t have to splurge to buy a snack when we were out.” – Brittany, Figuring it Out 101

Leave a Snack in Your Toddler’s Bed

“This might seem silly, but leaving a snack in my toddler’s bed made life better for me! He didn’t start sleeping through the night until he was 14 months old, so I was exhausted for a while there.

Leaving a snack in his bed made it so that when he woke up (always hungry), he could feed himself, giving me about another 30 minutes of sleep! May not sound like much,

but when you’re not getting much sleep, 30 minutes can make all the difference!” – Samantha, Her Journal Blog

Routines and Schedules

“Get everyone on a schedule so you can easily plan outings around naps and feedings. ” – Katrina, Mama’s Organized Chaos

“Getting my kids to help with chores. They all have daily chores which only take them about 15 minutes but it saves me time and keeps them from making extra messes. ” – Myrtle, DIY with My Guy

Vitamix Blender

“Kids and I eat loads of veggies without the struggle. Plus, clean up is much easier than my juicer or last blender.” – Val from the Common Cents Club shares her review on it here.

Babywearing

“I struggled to carry the baby or the car seat and all the things for so long with my first. Babywearing helps free your hands.” – Jena

Have Simple Recipes on Hand and Keep Healthy On the Go Snacks Around

“Be sure to have stupid simple recipes I can whip up when the kids are screaming and pulling on my legs–I try to keep the essentials for these recipes stocked in the pantry/freezer at all times.”

“Keep healthy grab & go snacks stocked in the pantry. This way, when schedules change, or we’re running out of the house last minute, the kids can just grab their own snack for the car from the basket on their own.” – Sharon, the Helpful GF

Buy Pants For Kids With Hidden Elastics in the Waist

“My son’s pants never fit right around the waist; at four years old, he couldn’t handle belts. Finally saw that most of his jeans have hidden elastic inside the waistband that you can adjust to make it tighter. 😂 Good to know.” – Laura, Cheered on Mom

Autopilot Chore System

“My favorite mom hack/ time saver would have to be establishing a chore system that runs on autopilot (it CAN be done)! Getting more help with less nagging is a mom win, making my life much easier. 😀 This is the link to my chore system.” Stephanie, Mommy Standard Time, shares her No Fuss Chare Chart here!

5-Minute Cleaning

“5-minute cleaning! It doesn’t sound like much, but as a mom of 6-the house can be quite untidy sometimes. So every day, I say time for a 5-minute cleanup—every child takes one room and cleans for 5 minutes…the four older children make a huge dent in the cleaning process, and the house seems to put back together (for now, lol)” – Jacqueline, Kitchen Psychology

Arielle gives two great mom hacks:

“Serve a veggie tray 30 minutes before mealtime. The kids will snack on it, and you don’t feel so bad if they don’t eat a good dinner because they fill d up on veggies beforehand.

Also, we serve cookies for breakfast on Christmas morning. You get “cool parent” points for serving cookies for breakfast, but because Christmas is exciting already, they only eat a couple.”

Room Darkening Curtains

“This is how we have 7:00 bedtime!” – Jama

Chrissie shares two quick tips:

“1. Have kids help in the garden, and they’ll naturally snack on veggies.
2. Send in Dad for reinforcement- works for anything! 😂 ”

And my favorite mom hacks!

3 Section Crockpot

I love using this to make both lunches and dinners for the day!

Use Excel

I am not naturally organized, so using excel comes in handy for budgeting and planning.

Create a Command Center

Have a designated spot where you can put everything important to your household, bills, appointments, paperwork, etc.

Have Quiet Time Every Day

Set aside a specific time of day where EVERYONE in the house rests. This has saved my sanity a time or two through the years. 🙂

Invest in an Okay to Wake Clock

Do you have a child that likes to get out of bed too late or too early? Investing in an Okay to Wake clock helps children learn the appropriate time to get out of bed each morning!
