Have you ever heard of a “sticky wall?”
No? Me either, until recently. I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a really fun activity for toddlers involving a sticky wall and puff balls.
I thought, Oh man I need to do that for the babies!
So, I did.
Do you want to know how long it lasted with the babies?
2.5 seconds. Seriously. It took me longer to set up than for them to actually play with it. Ha!
But then the big girls came in and man were they in heaven! I never would have thought a sticky wall activity would be so entertaining!
Miss B created a dog and a caterpillar with her materials. I realized this could be a fun activity to reinforce SO many concepts during the school year. We will definitely be doing this again!
Here’s how you can make a sticky wall too! It’s so easy!
The materials you need:
- contact paper (buy this at Walmart, I was able to get mine for less than $3.)
- Any material you want. I used puff balls, buttons, shiny paper, construction paper, cut up pipe cleaners, string and sequins.
- Washi tape (I suggest getting the wider kind, the thin tape didn’t hold great)
Steps:
- Gather all your materials together in a bin.
- Tape the contact paper to the wall, sticky side up, with washi tape. This creates your sticky wall.
- Give your child the materials and encourage them to stick them onto the sticky wall! The materials can come off too.
Ways to play:
- Stick toilet paper rolls on the contact paper and encourage your child to drop the puff balls down then tubes.
- Create a fun collage.
- Reinforce colors and shapes with your toddler or preschooler.
- For older kids, you can use the sticky wall to review math concepts and create art.
This activity can be done in so many ways! Let me know if you try it!
