30 Pumpkin Carving Ideas and A Few No Carve Ideas
Pumpkin carving as a family can be a treasured Autumn tradition. One your children (and you!) look forward to every year.
But that doesn’t mean carving pumpkins isn’t difficult. Especially with impatient little hands! Here are a few simple tips to help you carve your pumpkins this fall season with your children!
How to carve a pumpkin with your little ones.
Easy pumpkin carving tips:
- Pick a good pumpkin. If you pick a smooth pumpkin it will make it easier to carve into!
- Use safe lighting. Instead of using a real candle after you are finished, consider a tea light!
- Use a kid pumpkin carving kit. I have used them in the past and really love these when carving with children.
- Keep your pumpkin carving tools in a tray. This will keep them together and away from young children.
- Keep the stem on. Carve your stem off after you are done carving the Jack-O-Lantern. This will help keep the pumpkin steady.
- When you do carve the stem off carve at an angle. Or better yet, carve an opening from the bottom. (this can keep the pumpkin from caving in!)
- Use a stencil. Many of these fun pumpkin carving ideas come from a stencil! They have a variety of fun ideas!
- Let young kids paint small pumpkins. If you have older children, they can help carving. Let your young kids help by painting and then pulling out the guts of the pumpkin when you are done!
