Today I want to share with you one of my favorite activities to do with my girls. The Simple and Fun Way to Dye Rice.
Have you ever dyed rice? This is a simple and fun way to dye rice that will keep your kids busy for a long time!
Today was one of those Sunday’s that went on forever. I loved it.
After church the girls and I decided it would be fun to make home made play doh and dye rice.
If you have never dyed rice, I want to tell you, it’s a great sensory activity for children! The colors are vibrant and the texture helps stimulate their senses.
We love to use the dyed rice in activities for both play and school. One great activity is hiding letters or numbers in the rice and asking your child to find a certain one. You can make it a little more difficult for older children and ask them to find the letters in their spelling words. Or solve math facts with the numbers hidden in the rice. So many possibilities in one container of rice!
All you need to make the rice
- 1 three pound bag of rice
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- food dye in desired colors
- Ziploc bags
That’s it!
First pour your vinegar in a Ziploc bag. Then add a few drops of your desired dye color. After the color is mixed with the vinegar add your rice. I added 2 cups per bag and used 4 different bags. You can use whatever amount you would like though.
Hand your Ziploc bag to your kiddo (close it first!) and let them shake and rub the rice until it’s all coated.
Afterwards allow the rice dry for about an hour.
There you have it, an easy and cheap activity for your children that is fun to make too!
