I’m So Happy Jars: A Fun and Easy Project Kids Can Do!

I'm so happy jars

Create a fun, “I’m so Happy” jar with your family this week!

Have you ever gotten to the end of the year and wished you could remember all the happy and positive every day moments that happened? Enter the “I’m so Happy” jars.

I was researching ideas for traditions to start with your family a while back and stumbled across a “positive jar.” Who doesn’t love crafts that involve mason jars? I tailored it a little to make these I’m so Happy Jars!

Basically, the concept is this: leave out a jar or a “treasure box” in a space that is accessible to the entire family. When something positive happens during the day, write it down! At the end of the year, take all the papers out with your family, and read every happy event that happened through the year.

The “happy jar” can be so fun for many reasons! It is a neat way to remember moments you may typically forget. This tradition can also encourage family bonding and create a lifelong tradition that your family will enjoy for years to come.

Ten fun family traditions to start today!

I decided last week, I wanted to do this with my girls. We called them “happy jars.”

We liked the ring to it, plus it reminds us of the “Happy” song by Pharrell Williams. So, we love it!

To make the “happy jars” you will need:

  • a mason jar or another “treasure box” such as an old jewelry box.
  • paint
  • stack of paper

Step one: Paint your mason jar or treasure box (if you want to!)

We used acrylic paint. The girls painted the jars first. Then I went back over them with three coats of paint. The paint was light because they chose yellow, but after a few coats of paint, they turned out pretty good!

Step two: Allow jars to dry.

I waited a day just to be on the safe side.

Step three: Paint your words on the jar.

I painted the words “I’m so happy!” and also on the back, the girls’ names.

Miss B wanted to paint “I’m so happy because I have Pappy.” and my heart about exploded. She loves her Pappy so much! I am glad they have such a close bond.

Step four: Place the jar somewhere accessible for everyone to use with a pen and stack of paper. Then get started!

When something exciting, happy or amazing happens to you or your children, write it down! You will be thankful you have the memories at the end of the year.

Have fun creating your new family tradition!
