Subscription boxes. There are so many!

A few months ago I thought it would be super fun if my two crafty girls were gifted a craft box subscription from mommy and daddy.

So I began my research but then ran into a hurdle.

There are so many options out there! I started to feel overwhelmed. How in the world was I to know which one to get the girls?

The boxes ranged in prices, content and reviews.

Should I stick to the most popular ones (kiwi box?) or try a less pricy one?

I put my search on hold.

Fast forward to last month.

I had an idea. I thought it would be amazingly fun to try ALL the boxes we were interested in! (I’m not crazy, trust me.)

My girls would get to experience all the boxes and then they can help mommy choose which one is THE ONE.

Plus, I have a lot of mommy readers who are interested in subscription boxes but are in the same boat as me, which one to choose?

I decided it would be even more fun to try the boxes out and then write an honest review of the subscription box FOR YOU!

That way, if you are struggling with deciding which one to get, you can follow along and read the reviews before deciding!

What’s even better? Most subscription boxes will give a buyer a referral code to share with their friends. Meaning, YOU can get one free box (or discounted box) of the subscription boxes I try!

This past week we tried our first subscription box.

ToucanBox.

Here’s why I decided to go with ToucanBox first.

Their price.

The price was a huge motivating factor for me. I am a stay at home mom and I watch our pennies like a hawk. When I saw that ToucanBox was 12.95, I was pretty much sold. I was able to order two boxes for $35!

Honestly, that is the price of a ONE subscription box for several different places.

Their crafts.

The crafts that are in the box seemed to be simple enough for my two young daughters to do with minimal help.

Shipping.

The shipping was about a week after I ordered and I wanted to get started right away! On the Website it says 7-10 business days. We received ours in 6 days.

Our boxes arrived last week.

My first initial thought when I received the boxes: They are small. Okay, maybe not small but thin.

I am not sure what I was expecting.

If I had been more observant on the website, I would have seen the sizes of the boxes. And it makes sense. You don’t need a huge box to put craft supplies in.

Miss B’s box came first. For some reason Miss S received her box two days later. I’m not completely sure but I think it may have gotten dropped off at a neighbor’s house first. When we received Miss B’s I thought maybe the two subscription boxes came together in one box (I know, I come up with all kinds of weird scenarios.) But that didn’t really make sense.

I contacted the company and they were prompt in getting back to me. Both boxes were sent together. (A+ on customer service!)

Then two days later Miss S’s box ended up on our front step. I’m not sure if it was just late in the mail (they were both shipped together) or the postal service delivered it to the wrong address.

But anyway, if you order two boxes, you will get two boxes!

What came in each of the box.

  1. Two crafts with supplies. The supplies included all necessary items. Colored Pencils, glue, double sided tape, ribbon, paint, etc.
  2. A magazine (ton of fun games and ideas in it!)
  3. Stickers
  4. Personalized box addressed to your child

The girls unboxed their boxes and right away wanted to do the crafts. They received two crafts in each of their boxes and it took us roughly two hours to finish them. I think that had less to do with the advancement of the crafts and more because my daughters are dawdlers and take their sweet time with everything. (nothing wrong with that!)

You can watch the girls unbox their boxes below!

What did we think?

Girls.

The girls loved their boxes! Miss B actually asked me that night if I could get them more boxes on our day off (Saturday.)

She was pretty disappointed when I told her we had to wait for the next box to arrive in a couple of weeks. But she perked up when I told her it would be a different box. She loves trying new things.

Mom.

When I started researching subscription boxes, ToucanBox didn’t even come up on my radar for a while. But I am so glad that I found it!

The price is unbeatable. $12.95 for two crafts is amazing in my opinion.

I didn’t tally up what I believe to be the cost of each item (who has time for that?) but as a hands on activities mommy who spends ALOT of time in the craft aisle, I do believe that the price of in store is right at or maybe slightly above what you pay ToucanBox.

The crafts were simple enough that my oldest daughter needed minimal help doing hers. Miss S received one simpler craft in her box and one that was the same as Miss B. She was able to do the simple craft on her own. However, I had to do most of the more advanced craft for her. I believe though that’s because she was trying to drag it out as much as possible because she knew bedtime was coming!

When you order the box you place your child’s age in and they gear the craft towards your child’s age.

Would we buy it again?

Absolutely. To be honest, if we end up going with a different subscription box, we may also choose to add ToucanBox as well! I give this craft box an A+. You can’t go wrong with crafts at that price in my opinion.
