Memorial Day: How to Talk to Children About the Meaning

Memorial Day: How to Talk to Children About the Meaning

Please Share With Your Friends!

Memorial Day is a day to remember the men and women who died while serving in the Military.

It can be challenging to know how to talk to children about Memorial Day, especially if they are too young to understand thoroughly what it is all about.

Here are a few tips that will help make explaining Memorial Day easier for both you and your children. But, first, explain to your child in terms they will understand:

If your child is sensitive to death and dying, be sure to consider their sensitivities when talking about the sacrifices our fallen soldiers have made.

You can explain Memorial Day by watching simple videos made specifically for children reading a book together.

Slowly explaining facts in small bits that your child can handle is better than overwhelming them with all the facts.

Are you looking for ways to become a peaceful mom but you aren’t sure how?

I created a free planner for moms like me, who want to create a peaceful home but let the stress of never having it all together defeat them, because who really ever has it together? The best we can do is plan for peace and roll with the punches, right? If you want your free planner you can get it below!

– Memorial Day is not just a day off from school or work.

It is a day to remember those who died while serving in the Military. But, Memorial Day is not about barbecues or shopping sales. Instead, it is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made for our country. No, these extras are not wrong! So go ahead and enjoy that BBQ. But, also remember those who have fallen for our freedom to have that BBQ.

-Explain to your child what the Military is and why many men and women choose to serve in our Military.

-Talk to your children about the different ways that people can serve in the Military, and explain what happens when someone dies while serving their country.

-Help your children understand why we celebrate Memorial Day by sharing stories of bravery and heroism from people who have served in the Military.

You may even choose to share the story of someone close to you who has served in the Military.

-You can encourage your children to participate in Memorial Day ceremonies or parades in their community.

Showing support for our Military is something that everyone can do. Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have sacrificed so much for our country. It’s also an opportunity to teach your children about what Memorial Day means.

-Teach your child how to show respect for those who served in the Military.

If possible, visit a local memorial or cemetery where veterans are buried. Memorials and cemeteries help us remember all the men and women who died while serving their country. However, they also remind us that there are still many people fighting today for our freedom every day around the world!

How do you put the meaning of Memorial Day into simple terms for children?

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have served in the Military.

This day was originally called Decoration Day because people decorate graves with flowers, wreaths, flags, or other mementos. Memorial services are held at cemeteries across America on Memorial Day weekend each year and throughout the nation during National Military Appreciation Month (May).

– As a country, we need to continue supporting our troops, who are still fighting today worldwide; it’s one way we can say thank you for their service.

What else can we do?

Why not visit your nearest Veteran Cemetery with your family? So many events are taking place at these locations, and it’s a great way to show your respect and appreciation. You can also read books about Memorial Day together or look online for Memorial Day-themed coloring pages or activities! There is so much information available on the internet that you can use to help teach your children about this important day.

No matter how you choose to spend Memorial Day, make sure that your children know the significance of the day and what it means to our country.

Teaching kids about Memorial Day is a great way to show them our appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many Americans. So this Memorial Day weekend, let’s take time to remember those who have fought for our freedom – both past and present!
