no complain challenge

What is the no complain challenge?

This spot.

This is the one spot in the house that drives me up the wall.

I cannot tell you how often I mutter to myself and complain or to anyone who will listen, “can’t anyone put shoes on this rack correctly? Or take some shoes to your room? Or not wear so many shoes a day?”

Then I straightened the shoes as best as possible, only to turn around, and the shoes were thrown about the same way again.

Now, before you say, “well, I have an organizing hack for that,” let me just say I’ve probably tried that hack, but it didn’t work. And that’s not really the point of this post anyway.

Who else has a “spot” in their house? A spot that you complain about day in and day out? The dishes are never done. The bookshelf is a wreck. Ugh, laundry!

Or maybe it’s not a spot. Maybe it’s something else entirely. An attitude, a person, an action, a requirement, a chore.

We all have something, or maybe a lot of somethings, that steal our joy and peace. We all have “that spot” that takes us over the edge.

You often mutter, “I would be happier if my husband knew how to do the dishwasher.” Or “why can’t my kid get it together and put their toys away.?”

Whatever it may be, those complaints we speak over ourselves, our house, and our family have a way of sneaking in and zapping the peace right from us, our relationships, and our home.

Today before my devotions, I was praying, “God, how can I be the mom you created me to be? What can I do to help us become a more peaceful home?”

Then I turned in my devotions. They were about complaining.

It hit me.

It’s so easy to complain as a mom and wife. Sometimes we don’t even know we are doing it. But we mutter to ourselves or whoever will listen. About our house, job, chores, and unfortunately, sometimes about our families.

Our life would be easier if things went how we wanted, right? If people just did what we wanted them to do.

We can’t control everything, everyone, but we can control our reactions to things.

I am starting a NO COMPLAIN CHALLENGE for the next 8 weeks, and I hope you will join me.

Each week I will have a specific area we can work on together to stop complaining about our lives and enjoy the seasons we are in instead.

I hope this will help us enjoy our families and lives to the fullest, even right through the holidays, when things will most likely not go how we want.

This week, if you find yourself complaining about something – I challenge you to stop and think about why this something is a blessing instead.

I could complain about these shoes. But instead, I thank God for being able to afford shoes in the first place. I am thankful for the healthy lives and feet that fill these shoes. I am thankful we have sturdy shoes to put on our feet and go out in this cold weather.

You may find that when you start listing your blessings, more will pop into your head!

I will be joining along on this challenge. Tell me, will you be joining as well?
