5 Amazing Homeschool Resources You Will Love.

Are you homeschooling this year? Or are you considering homeschool for your family?

The best thing about homeschooling during this decade is all the resources readily available to you. Here are 5 awesome resources we use in our homeschool.

As moms, we want the best education for our children.

This is why I am a huge advocate of school choice. Being able to decide what education course is right for your child is a decision that should only be made by you and your spouse.

If you have chosen to homeschool, or if you are just now thinking about starting this journey, you may be wondering where to turn to?

I am asked often what resources I use for our homeschool. Do we use one curriculum? Do we mix and match? What about the subjects like art and music? How do we incorporate those subjects into our homeschool?

This is why I decided to put together a quick like of resources we use in our homeschool! Now I will say, these are not the only resources we use. There are so many to chose from out there. These are simply the ones we use for our main subjects and a few supplemental subjects as well!

How do you know which resources are best for your family?

First you look at how your child learns best. Then you use the trial and error method.

Look, you do not need to have it all figured out. I have switched curriculum a few times throughout our homeschool journey. I have found that some didn’t work for my child, even if I loved it. Others just weren’t a good fit for any of us. It’s absolutely okay to use trial and error with no guilt!

One of the best thing about homeschooling is you can change course if you need to.

Does your child learn best hands on? Do they learn better by implementing electronics and online learning?

Use the trial and error we talked about and change course if you need to! There is no shame and no guilt in figuring out what works best for your child and family and then going for it.

5 awesome homeschool resources for your family.

Logic of English

Logic of English is by far my favorite homeschool curriculum find. Here is why.

Last year my daughter was struggling with reading. The phonics did not make sense to her. She is a logic thinker. She cannot just memorize sounds and letters. My daughter needed to KNOW why a sound made the sound it did. All the curriculum I had used previously implemented phonics and memorization. It wasn’t working.

Then Logic of English entered our lives and we both fell in love. Logic of English teaches the rules of English, allowing children to figure out why a word is making this sound, instead of merely memorizing.

Logic of English also teaches handwriting, comprehension, spelling, reading and language arts. It’s the whole package! If your child struggles with learning sight words, they may benefit from Logic of English, who take a more, well, logical approach.

Masterbooks

Masterbooks is what we use for math and bible.

We have also purchased their morning and family baskets, which I love! These baskets give you supplement material, so you can quickly squeeze in other topics and subjects without feelings rushed.

Masterbooks takes on a Charlotte Mason approach to learning. Their books use stories to help a child learn. This we love, especially in math! The lessons don’t feel boring or bland with these living stories.

Charlotte Mason was a huge advocate in less twaddle (busy work) and more work that a child can master in a shorter amount of time. Most lessons take between 15-30 minutes. Most children cannot sit and retain a subject for longer than that time frame. This is one reason we love Masterbooks!

Gather ‘Round Homeschool

If you have multiple children, Gather ‘Round Homeschool may be something you would love!

Rebecca Spooner and her team came out with Gather ‘Round Homeschool last year. She felt that there had to be a better way to teach multiple children. She was right!

Gather ‘Round Homeschool offers multiple unit studies, as well as mini unit studies, that you can use with all your children.

When you purchase a unit study, you can either purchase the pre-printed books or you can purchase the digital to print yourself. (we chose this option.)

When you purchase the digital units you will receive the teacher manual, and every level. I love this option because it allows me to pick and choose what I think my children would love or can master without having to stick with a certain level. You can look through her units here.

SQUILT

Squilt is a music lesson supplement. You can use it in your curriculum as a homeschool family or an activity as a stand alone for a child who loves to learn about music.

Squilt offers several different options to chose from including eras and famous musicians.

You can download a free trial lesson to try out Squilt and see if it is right for your family! You can shop the different lessons here.

Art History Kids

Art History Kids is similar to Squilt. It offers lessons for families at a low price, as well as free activity ideas to use in your homeschool.

A few different lessons include Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Georgia O’Keeffe.

Browse Art History Kids lessons to find something you and your kids will enjoy.

Mystery Science

My kids and I recently discovered Mystery Science. Mystery Science offers a free trial period to try out their curriculum lessons.

Each lesson is short and goes into detail about a science mystery such as ‘what would happen if we didn’t have a skull?” or “why are so many people scared of bugs?”

An activity is also included with the short lesson, making learning a hands on experience your child will love.

Rooted Childhood

Rooted Childhood is a fun supplement I love to include in our homeschool.

Included in this supplement are several activities, from cooking, handiworks, to songs and activities for children.

Rooted Childhood offers digital packages for each month as well as seasons, so your hands on activities can go along with the current season or month you are in.

LeapFrog Academy

Leapfrog Academy is an interactive online program that gives your child several subjects to choose from to explore.

Some of the subjects included are math, reading, science, history, and abcs. You can gear your child’s games and learning towards their current level. As they advance through the lessons and games you can keep track of their progress.

Leapfrog Academy offers a free trial period. My children absolutely love Leapfrog Academy and do not even realize they are learning!

Ivy Kids Kits

Ivy Kids Kit is my absolute favorite subscription box to include in our homeschool. It is a unit study box that gears each activity around a book.

In the box you will receive a book, a stuffed animal and several games, crafts and activities that center around the subject of the book of the month.

Ivy Kids Kit also has the option to add a sibling to your box and will send the material needed for each child.

You can check it out here.

You can create an enriching education for your children, even at home.

The best thing about living in today’s day and age are the resources readily available to us, especially as homeschool families. If you are wanting to add more supplements to your homeschool, any of these would make a great addition!
