Bubble painting is your new favorite summer science activity!

Are you looking for an activity that combines art and science and is super entertaining?

Kids love bubbles and with such few supplies this is something you can pull off in your home or classroom any day!

Supplies:

  • dish soap
  • tempera paint
  • straws
  • Cardstock or heavy paper
  • shallow bowls or dishes

bubble painting has many benefits:

  • fine motor skills – mouth movement, stirring
  • color mixing
  • science – air, reflection, surface tension (you can really extend to the level of your participant)

How to get started: Mix 2 Tbsp. paint with a squirt of soap.

Mix with a straw or spoon.

Use the straw to blow bubbles and catch on paper.

The bendy straws work great because you do not have to be right over the bubbles and can be off to the side!

My preschooler helped and loved this activity. It was easy to “catch” the bubbles for bubble painting and make beautiful backgrounds. It spurred conversation that really let us dive deep into science concepts and even involved my littlest little with colors and shapes!

Extensions – take this activity to the next level by:

  • Adding silhouettes over the top
  • animals for science (adding a fish in the sea!)
  • people for a unit on personal narratives
  • galaxy painting
  • kite/summer sky art

If you loved this activity be sure to check out my entire Summer Science Series – PACKED with awesome EASY experiments for young learners!

This makes such a great back to school or end of summer fun project for young learners!
